Terms & Conditions

The basis on which we arrange and manage work. Written to be read, not to be impenetrable.

These terms apply when you ask Jackson HomeCare to arrange or carry out work. Nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. What we do

We arrange, coordinate and manage home maintenance, repair and improvement work. Some work we carry out ourselves. For the rest we select and engage suitably experienced professionals on your behalf and manage the job through to completion.

Either way, we remain your point of contact and we remain responsible for coordinating the work we have agreed to arrange.

2. Enquiries and quotations

  1. An enquiry places no obligation on either of us. It is not an offer or an acceptance.
  2. We will provide a written quotation setting out the scope of work, what is included, what is excluded, and the price.
  3. A quotation is valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise, and is based on the information available to us at the time.
  4. No work begins until you have accepted the quotation. Accepting it forms a contract on these terms.

Our quotation terms set out in more detail what a quote covers and what happens when a job turns out differently from expected.

3. Changes to the work

Older properties in particular hide things. If we find work that was not visible when we quoted — rot behind a panel, unsafe wiring, a leak that has been running longer than anyone thought — we will stop, tell you what we have found, and give you the options and revised costs before doing anything further.

We will not carry out additional chargeable work without your agreement. The only exception is where immediate action is genuinely necessary to prevent injury or significant further damage, and we will tell you as soon as we reasonably can.

4. Access and the property

  1. You will provide safe access to the property at the agreed times, or arrange for us to hold keys or use a key safe.
  2. Please tell us about anything we should know — asbestos, hidden services, pets, vulnerable occupants, parking restrictions or alarm systems.
  3. Where a wasted visit is caused by access not being available, we may charge a reasonable amount for the time and travel. We will always try to rearrange first.
  4. Please move or protect valuable and fragile items in the working area before we arrive. We will take reasonable care, but some things are better moved than covered.

5. Your right to cancel

Because we agree work by telephone, email or through this website rather than at business premises, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of accepting a quotation, without giving a reason. This right comes from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

To cancel, tell us in writing at info@jacksonhomecare.co.uk. Then:

  • If work has not started, you owe nothing and we will refund any payment in full within 14 days.
  • If you asked us to start within the 14-day period and then cancel, you are liable for the work already done and materials already supplied, in proportion to the whole. We will set that out clearly.
  • Once the work is fully performed at your express request within the 14 days, the cancellation right no longer applies — we will tell you this before starting.

You can of course also cancel or rearrange outside that period. Please give us as much notice as you can; where a professional has already been booked or materials ordered, we may need to pass on costs already committed.

6. Prices and payment

  1. Prices are as stated in the accepted quotation.
  2. Where a job is charged by time rather than a fixed price, we will tell you the rate and give an estimate of the time before starting.

7. Standard of work

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods supplied must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing here limits that.

We check work on completion against what was quoted before we treat a job as finished.

8. If something is not right

Tell us. We would far rather hear about it than have you tell everyone else.

9. Liability

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill.

We do not exclude or limit our liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and for breach of your statutory rights as a consumer.

We are not liable for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, for pre-existing defects we were not engaged to address, or for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control — though we will tell you promptly and work with you to reschedule.

10. Regulated work

Certain work — including some electrical, gas and structural work — may only be carried out by appropriately qualified people and may need notifying under the Building Regulations. Where that applies we will arrange a suitably qualified professional and you will receive the relevant certification.

11. Photographs

We may take photographs of work for our own records. We will not publish any image of your property or use it in our marketing without asking you first, and you are free to say no.

12. General

  1. These terms and any contract under them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
  2. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
  3. We may update these terms. The version that applies to your job is the one in force when you accepted the quotation.
